About Us

The Forbes House Museum is a majestic Greek Revival mansion built in 1833 for Margaret Perkins Forbes by her sons Robert Bennet Forbes (1804-1889) and John Murray Forbes (1813-1898). Today, the Museum contains the treasures of four generations of the Forbes family. Its broad collection includes maritime art and artifacts, Chinese Export objects, items related to the United States' first humanitarian aid mission to Ireland, and Lincoln and Civil War artifacts and memorabilia. The expansive grounds boast a stunning view of Boston and its harbor, a beautiful variety of trees, a pollinator garden, and an historic barn and carriage house that are in the process of being restored and repurposed as an events space to serve both the museum and the greater community.
